8.1.1 How to Start Terminal Program
When you issue commands to the system to do the desired work on the Raspberry Pi system, you uses the Terminal screen. Although the Raspberry Pi system supports the window and can do some work in the window, most work still needs to be done manually by typing the command on the Terminal program screen.
There are several ways to start a Terminal program on the Raspberry Pi system. You can start the Terminal program from the local console, start the Terminal program from the remote connection, or start the Terminal program from the window.
● How to start Terminal from local console
If the system is set to start at the Terminal screen when booting, after system is connected and the user logon is completed, the Terminal will be ready to execute necessary commands on the screen. Refer to the description of [9.5 Setting Boot Startup Screen] for how to set the Terminal screen to start when booting. The screen below shows the state that system is connected from the local console and logon is completed with "pi" account.
● How to start Terminal with remote access using SSH
You can remotely connect to the Raspberry Pi system using SSH. After remote connection and logging on as a specific user, it becomes a state of Terminal where commands can be executed immediately. For details on how to remotely connect using SSH, refer to the descriptions of [18.2 Remote Terminal ]. The screen below shows the state that remote connection is made to the Raspberry Pi system using SSH and "pi" account logons.
● How to start Terminal from Desktop window
You can use the Terminal program easily if you log on to the Desktop window from which you were connecting from the local or remotely. You can open and use the Terminal window at any time using the LXTerminal program which is provided as a default in the window, or you can also open multiple windows at the same time and work with them. The following is the case where the Terminal screen is started in the window, and it shows that the Terminal screen can be started and the necessary work can be done with it while leaving the other window screen as it is.
