Raspberry Pi에서 SD card를 저장장치로 사용할 수 있지만, 보통 SD card는 저장할 수 있는 용량이 제한되어 있어서 대용량의 자료 저장이 필요한 경우는 별도의 외부 저장장치가 필요하다. 이러한 외부 저장장치를 사용하고자 하면 이를 USB port에 연결하여 사용할 수 있어야 한다.
